George ‘Griff’ Griffiths

At the age of 13 Griff won a scholarship to Wakefield School of Arts & Crafts using the same handheld instruments to make marks and the same pigments ground to make paint as had been used for centuries. This was the foundation for his work in the years to come.

About the Artist

At the age of 13 Griff won a scholarship to Wakefield School of Arts & Crafts using the same handheld instruments to make marks and the same pigments ground to make paint as had been used for centuries. This was the foundation for his work in the years to come. After a career in the Royal Navy and insurance Griff became a full time artist in 1975. It has been a long and varied artistic path from providing artists impressions for the commonwealth games bid to sheep up on the Yorkshire moors. As a trained architectural illustrator as well as an artist he blends both skills in to his work.

Now in his mid 80’s Griff has found inspiration from a special subject, the boats, harbours and coastline of Cornwall and is painting with renewed vigour. His paintings can be seen at his sons studio/ gallery in church street, Helston, TR13 8TG. Limited edition prints will be available in the future.

“I seem to be getting a number of commissions for wedding presents usually the venue hotel etc., not a bad idea when you can’t think what to buy the happy couple and it’s a one off not another toaster!”
