Ian ‘Griff’ Griffiths

Capturing the essence and spirit of the subject is my overriding consideration and challenge when painting wildlife. Sometimes it is in illustrative details other times it will be in heavy impasto and when out sketching watercolour and ink is the preferred choice. I sketch on my tablet and even create sculptures if I feel that better represents the subject in front of me or within.

About the Artist

Capturing the essence and spirit of the subject is my overriding consideration and challenge when painting wildlife. Sometimes it is in illustrative details other times it will be in heavy impasto and when out sketching watercolour and ink is the preferred choice. I sketch on my tablet and even create sculptures if I feel that better represents the subject in front of me or within.

My work isn’t limited to Wildlife but the natural world is my subject matter, painting as much outdoors as in the studio.

I live on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall and my open studio and galley is in the historic part of Helston.

I have been a finalist and a winner for several years in the BBC wildlife artist of the year as well winning other awards such has the Cuthbert’s mill’s best work on paper in 2013. My work has featured in several publications and is collected from Australia to Austria. Commissions considered.

Studio / Gallery Address: 8 Church Street, Helston, TR13 8TG
